Why Mono Compatibility Still Matters

Stereo playback has become the norm, yet mono compatibility remains one of the simplest ways to evaluate whether a mix is built on solid psychoacoustic foundations.

If a mix loses important instruments, becomes noticeably thinner or changes character dramatically when summed to mono, the issue is rarely mono itself. It is usually the result of phase relationships that were already present in the stereo mix.


Mono Reveals What Stereo Can Hide

When listening in stereo, your brain receives different information from each ear. Those differences help create width, localisation and a sense of space.
