Questions

Before you start.

Is Freq free to use right now?
Yes — Freq is currently in a free trial period. Pricing will move to a tiered free/pro model once we're ready to launch it. A few higher-quality output features are already paid, even during the trial, and are available on demand.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Freq runs entirely in your browser. The processing itself happens on Freq's cloud engine, not your laptop — nothing to download or update.
How does a session actually start?
You upload your multitrack, and the Optimize Balance Wizard reads it and returns a starting balance. From there, you shape the mix yourself using depth and console assignment.
What if I want to undo something or go back to an earlier version?
Every meaningful state in a session is saved automatically. You can restore any earlier version instantly, instead of guessing which file was "the good one."
Can I work on a mix with someone else — an engineer or a collaborator?
Today, collaboration works through the Experts tab — you can opt a project in for review by one of Freq's own experts, who can only access it once you approve. Inviting your own engineer or collaborator with assigned roles is coming soon.
How do I share a mix for review?
Stream it live to everyone reviewing at once. Once it's approved, there's a single official master to download, instead of five files named "final" across different inboxes.
Why depth instead of just volume or EQ?
Turning something up or carving it with EQ can only do so much before you run out of room. Depth adds a front-to-back axis, so elements can sit at different distances from the listener instead of competing for the same space. We write about the reasoning in more detail in Depth in Mixing Explained.
Will my mix still hold up on headphones, in a car, or on a phone speaker?
Translation is one of the harder problems in mixing generally. Freq is built around treating it as something to design into the mix itself, not fix afterward at mastering — the same principle behind how a mix survives different playback systems.
