Pricing & Access
Is Freq free to use right now?
Yes. Freq is currently in a free trial period. Pricing will move to a tiered free/pro model once we're ready to launch it. A few higher-quality output features are already paid, even during the trial, and are available on demand if you want them.
What happens to my projects when paid tiers launch?
We haven't finalized that transition yet. What we can say now: refunds, cancellations, and project or add-on transfers aren't offered as a standing policy — exceptions are considered case by case, at our discretion.
Getting Your Music In
What file formats can I upload?
WAV, FLAC, and MP3 are supported today. AIFF support is coming soon.
Is there a limit on file size, track count, or song length?
Not right now. Your internet connection is the practical bottleneck, not Freq — the stronger your connection, the better.
Do all my multitrack files need to match in sample rate or bit depth?
No — if your files differ, the engine conforms them to whichever default you select. What does matter is timing: make sure every file in your multitrack starts and ends at the exact same point.
What sample rates are supported?
Up to 48kHz for now. Higher sample rates are coming soon.
Can I use a Freq plugin inside my DAW?
Not yet — there's no DAW plugin integration today. You export your multitrack from your DAW as usual and upload it to Freq in the browser. Plugin integration is planned.
Working in Freq
How does a session actually start?
You upload your multitrack, and the Optimize Balance Wizard reads it and returns a starting balance. From there, you shape the mix yourself using depth and console assignment.
What if I want to undo something or go back to an earlier version?
Every meaningful state in a session is saved automatically. You can restore any earlier version instantly, instead of guessing which file was “the good one.”
Why depth instead of just volume or EQ?
Turning something up or carving it with EQ can only do so much before you run out of room. Depth adds a front-to-back axis, so elements can sit at different distances from the listener instead of competing for the same space. Read more in Depth in Mixing Explained.
Collaboration & Experts
Can I work on a mix with someone else?
Today, collaboration works through the Experts tab: you can opt a project in for review by one of Freq's own experts. Inviting your own engineer or collaborator with assigned roles — engineer, mastering engineer, client, editor — is coming soon.
Who can see my project?
Your projects are private by default. The only exception is if you opt in to expert review through the Experts tab — and even then, the expert can only access your project after you approve it.
Privacy & Data
Does Freq keep my audio after I'm done?
Finished projects are retained for archival purposes unless you delete them. You can delete a project at any time.
Output & Delivery
What can I actually download from Freq?
A final bounce in WAV, FLAC, or MP3, at the true peak level and bit depth you choose.
Can I get alternate mixes, not just one final file?
Alternate mixes for your final approved or requested version are coming soon.
How do I share a mix for review?
Stream it live to everyone reviewing at once. Once it's approved, there's a single official master to download, instead of separate files across different inboxes.
Will my mix still hold up on headphones, in a car, or on a phone speaker?
Translation is one of the harder problems in mixing generally. Freq is built around treating it as something to design into the mix itself, not fix afterward at mastering — the same principle behind how a mix survives different playback systems.
